Namche Monastery, originally known as Mani Lhang, is a historic site nestled in Namche Bazar. The name "Mani" translates to "prayer Wheels" while Lhang refers to the room that shelters the sacred Prayer wheel.

Over time, this modest structure evolved into a small monastery, complete with a courtyard and prayer room that has handwritten Kyangyur and Tengyur, and became known as Namche Monastery. Although it is not a functional monastery, it serves as an important cultural and religious center, hosting the annual Dumji festival. This sacred site, approximately 500 years old, features a large prayer room housing the Kengyur, a collection of 108 volumes of sacred texts, and the Tengur.

Namche Monastery offers visitors a unique glimpse into the spiritual heritage of the Sherpa Community and the enduring traditions of Tibetan Buddhism in the Everest region.
